The 2018 BAY FOLK WEEKEND SONG COMPETITION -  was on the theme of Bay’s oldest resident - the RNLI’s cast iron FISH collecting box which has stood on the Slipway since 1897. The songwriters focussed on the FISH’s legendary ability to grant a wish and flick its iron tail when a coin is placed in its mouth, but they also have created an inventive mix of imaginary lives and activities for this historic land-based sea creature.

In Joint First Place and winning a guitar each:

John Drakes with ‘My Heart belongs to the Sea’ and

Graham Wilkinson /Chequered Past with ‘Feed The Fish’

Highly commended was awarded to both Skinner & T’witch and David Swann for two outstanding and fabulous songs. A special prize went to Tony Morris for the most entertaining entry.

We were knocked out by the quality of all 11 entries, and a CD featuring all the entries is now on sale for just £5 and was available at the Folk Weekend with all proceeds going to the Lifeboat Charity.

The CD cover picture features 9 year old Isla Foster feeding the fish with a £5 note.

It is also available online - SEE BELOW.

The BAY FOLK WEEKEND is organised (?) by the Bay Folk Club

which meets every Friday Evening in the big room of Ye Dolphin,

a characterful pub on King Street in the old village of Robin Hood’s Bay,

where we keep alive the local tradition of music and singing.

Visiting Singers, Musicians and Listeners are all very welcome

We usually start between 8.30 and 9.00 p.m.
